User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0 Build ID: 20160922113459 Steps to reproduce: 1) On Firefox for Android, go to a web page with bold typeface. For example, the Mayo Clinic site regarding seeing blurry objects: http://www.mayoclinic.org/symptom-checker/vision-problems-adult/related-factors/itt-20009075 2) Create a pdf by using the context menu command: Page / Save as PDF 3) View the PDF. Bold typeface is double-strike. 4) Create a pdf from the same website using most other website-to-pdf tools. For this example, the free android app URL to PDF Converter, version 3.0 by OT Apps. 5) View the PDF. Bold typeface is single-strike bold. Actual results: The Firefox pdf converter produces double-strike characters for some bold type fonts. This looks bad, and if one wants to cut and paste text from a saved pdf, this bug makes it unusable. Expected results: Expected single strike bold characters.
Please don't mark this as a duplicate of bug 991143. The discussion in that bug report talks about improving the separation between double-strike characters. I'm requesting that the Double-strike strategy be eliminated.
This is a duplicate of 991143. If you want to propose a different solution it can be a comment. Keeping two different bugs for the same underling issue will result in divergent discussion. As I recall the double strike bold is used when the font does not provide a usable bold in the same weight as the page requests. Not double striking would result in normal emphasized text.
