RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 28586

Details

The javascript alert that results from a mistyped, unresolvable URL can be a
source of user frustration.

If you mistype a url - www.moizlla.org for example, hit enter, realize your
mistake and try to correct it - unless you're really fast, your effort will be
interrupted by the javascript alert. Chances are you'll have just placed the
cursor at the location of your error when you are interrupted.

You then have to dismiss the javascript alert and lose your cursor position.
The cursor will be placed in the address bar with the entire URL highlighted.

Try it a few times and you'll see that it's very difficult beat the javascript
alert.

The 0.9.8 build on linux is only slightly better - You still get the javascript
alert, but after you dismiss it you are given back your cursor position.

Contrast this with IE behavior which loads a search page in the browser with the
NOT FOUND message, but does not disrupt your effort to correct your typo.

At the very least - behavior on Windows should be the same as linux, but from a
usability standpoint, the IE method is superior.
