User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0 Build ID: 20160921145141 Steps to reproduce: I opened Thunderbird 45.4.0 and the error occurred immediately upon opening, having not occurred on previous openings. To my knowledge, I had not made any changes to Thunderbird or its plugins since I had last opened it. Actual results: A dialogue box appeared with the following text: "The binary component required for Lightning could not be loaded, likely because the wrong version combination is being used. You currently have Lightning 4.7.4 installed, but should be using a version from the 4.7 series." After dismissing the dialogue box, I was unable to use the calendar functionality. I was able to open the calendar tab, but the UI elements in the tab did not respond to mouse clicks, and some of them were flickering rapidly. When I tried to close the tab, Thunderbird hung for a few seconds before completing the action. Whenever I selected an email containing a calendar item in the email tab, the preview pane was blank. Expected results: I should have been able to use the calendar functionality as normal.
Are you using Thunderbird and Lightning packages from mozilla.org or from your OS repository? Please ensure that you do not mix packages from mozilla.org and your OS repository. Please ensure that the correct package is installed for your platform.
Also, do you get any more error console messages?

Hello, I am having exactly the same problem. Any solutions yet? Thanks!
hello, same problem. Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS TB : 45.4.0 Lightning : 4.7.4 profile came from 12.04 and last TB before changed my ubuntu version.
Hi, I have found out, that the problem only occurs, when the profile I am using is located on a network drive. I copied my profile to the system drive (in my case C:\...) and the error was gone... Maybe that helps.
I have the same problem and have found out. I use ubuntu and put the profile on a partition other than root partition. I mount the profile partition by "user" option and cause "noexec" to be applied implicitly so that thunderbird can not load binary from the profile partition. Adding "exec" flag to mount option, it works.
I've had similar problem on FreeBSD 11. Thunderbird is installed with pkg. The problem most likely occurred after `pkg upgrade`. Workaround: I've created another, empty profile in Thunderbird. In original profile I've deleted Lightening extension directory and then copied extension directory from the new profile. After that I've removed new profile and the problem didn't occur anymore.
Getting the same problem under Win 7 x64 Pro. Only difference is Lightning 4.7.8.
(In reply to Dennis from comment #8) > Getting the same problem under Win 7 x64 Pro. Only difference is Lightning > 4.7.8. Tried with the profile on a share and tried it locally. Problem occurs either way. Lightning is installed via the Thunderbird add-ons manager.
Binary component is now in Thunderbird. Closing this bug.
