Many newsreaders have a feature whereby different signatures may be assigned to
different newsgroups, so that a message sent to a specific group will have the
appropriate signature attached. Not of earth-shattering importance, but there
are many times when it would be quite nice.

The one problem I see is when a user crossposts to two or more newsgroups with
their own sigs. Which signature should be appended? Should the user have to
choose from a dialog or menu (intrusive)? Should the default sig be appended
instead? Should the sigs be concatenated (this could pass the 4-line limit
pretty quickly)?

Important IMO when posting to NGs in different languages.

sorry for the spam. making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs. filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.

I'll give this a whirl, it might not come fast though, so I'll won't ASSIGN in case some young whipper-snapper (or old wimper-sniper) wants to grab it and fix it faster than I.
I think the best way to accomplish this, at least the way I'll try, is a user preference between prompting if multiple signatures apply, or automatically using the default sig. That's gives the user the choice to be disturbed. A popup the first time such a conflict occurs could offer the option, as well as a "use default automatically next time" checkbox.

I'll have to pass on this after all, it's too complex for someone as new to this as myself.
