this switched around May 4th from debug -> opt, but remaining on osx. This picked up around May 24th (I have seen many tests do that).

The test is really simple:
https://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/toolkit/components/thumbnails/test/browser_thumbnails_capture.js?q=path%3Abrowser_thumbnails_capture.js&redirect_type=single

an a recent log:
https://treeherder.mozilla.org/logviewer.html#?repo=autoland&job_id=103009591

and the related screenshot:

and what I see in the log (not much):

I assume captureAndCheckColor is failing in this case.

:pdehaan, can you help find someone on the firefox new tab team to investigate this failure and bring it to resolution in the next 2 weeks?
Flags: needinfo?(pdehaan)
:Mardak, can you help find someone to look at this failure, I wouldn't say this is priority 1, but this is showing a consistent set of failures for a few weeks on osx.
Flags: needinfo?(pdehaan) → needinfo?(edilee)
this looks to be back in the mid 20's for the week assuming our failure rate continues today and through the weekend.
I see many failures in the past week, I am not sure who to talk to about this bug, but I assume all who care about this test are following this bugzilla component- I can disable this next week.

Intermittent toolkit/components/thumbnails/test/browser_thumbnails_capture.js. temporarily disable on osx. r=gbrown

Oh no, the skip-if statement (comment 15) uses the wrong os name, so failures continue...let's fix that.

Fix incorrect skip-if for browser_thumbnails_capture.js; r=me,test-only

The leave-open keyword is there and there is no activity for 6 months.
:tspurway, maybe it's time to close this bug?
