There's some weird interaction going on between browser_newtab_search.js and browser_newtab_sponsored_icon_click.js. Bug 1308931 removed part of browser_newtab_search.js, and suddenly browser_newtab_sponsored_icon_click.js started to fail. In https://treeherder.mozilla.org/#/jobs?repo=try&revision=d07a58cee83d35541738a5351304f173bb3f0117&selectedJob=30318861 I completely disabled browser_newtab_search.js which made browser_newtab_sponsored_icon_click.js fail as well.
