Details
build 2002031104 win32
I deleted a message from a folder, then the next message was automatically
selected, however the message being viewed in the message preview pane was
definately not the message selected in the thread pane. I am viewing message in
threaded mode.
What was displayed in the message preview pane (and is also shown when
double-clicking to open the message in its own window) was mainly the text from
another message in a different folder, however it did contain what looked like
the first few headers from the correct message.
The folder from which I deleted the message was a subfolder of Local Folders
where I automatically move some messages when they arrive (using filters). The
message that was sort of displayed should also be moved automatically by filters
into another subfolder of Local Folders.
Here's some of the text from what appears in the preview pane:

I had been seeing this a lot a few months back in earlier builds (I think we
were having network problems at the same time).
Also:
- all my mail is from a POP3 server
- Mozilla is configured to leave messages on server, but delete them when
deleted locally (I'm not sure if this is working correctly)

I am also seeing mail corruption problems.
Compacting folders often results in an "nstmp" file being created in the same
directory as the mail and .msf files. Mail GUI often doesn't correctly show
counts for unread messages until that folder is selected. Messages which have
been moved to subfolders by filters are showing up in the Inbox as well as the
subfolder. Though mail has not crashed for me, on a couple of occasions it
did become unresponsive.
[WinNT4sp6|Gecko/20020409]
Mail server is POP3. Configured to leave mail on server, but to delete when
deleted locally.

I've reverted to [Gecko/20020402] and, so far, have not seen the corruption
issue in this release. This issue may be a result of changes made after this
build.

Bug 136559 is looking at this issue in regards to recent builds
(after April 5th or so).
I'm leaving this bug as is because it was filed prior to what is
being investigated for 136559.

I believe you want to get a newer build - there were a couple builds that had
this problem, but it should have been fixed a while ago. Navin knows the details.
