Basicly it should work like Go!Zilla's monterUpdate feature.

you select a file (by full URL) and then mozilla monitors this file, by at
regular interval checking its size or date.

when a update occurs one of the following actions could be taken:

1. alert the user by means of a flash or dialogboks
2. automaticly download the new version and alert the user when its ready

There's already a "Schedule" tab for bookmark properties when using the Manage 
Bookmarks window. You can have the bookmark icon change, display an alert, open 
the page in a new window and play a sound for notification. Marking fixed. 
Better and/or more accessible UI for this would be nice.
