firefox 50.0 works once after a clean install on Windows, and then subsequently crashes everytime

Steps to reproduce:
Installed/upgraded to 50.0 on Windows
Actual results:
On first run after upgrade, it worked fine.
On each subsequent launch, it hung with a single, unresponsive and blank tab open.
Reinstalling did not fix the problem ... it was only fixed after I deleted all the Mozilla folders in the AppData subdirectories, and then reinstalled.
However, it only worked once, and then froze with the same, empty, unresponsive single tab.
I did not install any addins.
Downgrading to 49.0 fixed the problem.
Expected results:
It shouldn't just hang when i open the application.
