From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:0.9.9) Gecko/20020311 BuildID: 2002031104 It seems regardless of what gopher site I go to the menu fails to display at all. I have, however, gotten a real menu on occasion, but this has totalled to about 2 times in a rather large number of tries. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Mozilla 2. Enter a gopher site into the location bar (try gopher://gopher.infoarc.sodaknet.com:8070/1, gopher://gopher.well.sf.ca.us/1, etc.) Actual Results: header and blank menu Expected Results: The WELL's gopher menu
The first link tells me that I'm not authorised, but the second one works. Its rather slow (10-20 seconds), but its slow if I just telnet manually to that server, so thats not a mozilla bug

Ok...that could be why I couldn't view the my own site (infoarc), but it wasn't even telling me I was unauthorized (which, the error not being in gopher format, I can understand that). I fixed the auth error, and it still is blank. Btw, this is Mozilla 0.9.9, I just noticed I forgot to fill that in. And in any case, it's not just my site that I can't view in moz, it's pratically any. (Except, now...ehk). Ok, now I can view a site: gopher://gopher.aquarius.null/. Problem is, the domain is hosted by an alternative DNS root (which shouldn't be affected whether moz displays it or not). It goes in and out, now. Sometimes I can view it, other times I try to refresh and it disappears. I still haven't been able to see, say, the WELL, /at all/. I can view it in other clients fine. As a sidenote, I recently downloaed Moz 0.9.3 just to get the neato tree menu, and all works fine with any site that exists.

the target milestone is whn its meant to be fixed, not what version it was reported in. Note that gopher isn't very good about reporting errors, so you won't get a popup for a domain name error, for example Again, I can't reproduce this. Are you using a proxy of some sort, or something? -> networking

No, I'm not using a proxy at all; and the server is in the same subnet, so I know there's not a possibility of a transparent proxy from my ISP interfering. I've further noticed that I can, at times, get the main gopher menu up to a site, but clicking on a link produces a blank menu, and then trying to access the main menu again in whatever way produces a blank menu again...sort of a `one-time' gopher menu. Nor can I retrieve files after the first try, even by manually typing the URL.
I can confirm that NONE of the Gopher sites in this bug gives me more than a header. No menu, no errors, NADA. The third site, gopher://gopher.aquarius.null/, won't even TRY to load. Confirming bug. Win XP Pro Gold 2002033009

Ever confirmed: true
Just as a note, gopher.aquarius.null is not going to be accessible by many given the nature of the domain name, which is not in ICANN namespace; the TLD is hosted by an alternative DNS root system, OpenNIC. However, it's address resolves to the same as gopher.infoarc.sodaknet.com.
qa to gopherqa. added sub-component to summary for searchability. By "menu", I assume you mean that the top-level menu (displayed as folders in HTML view or a outline in XUL view). This is broken for me in both views, Mozilla 1.0 RC1/Win98. I also put a new gopher link that should be visible to everyone and checked that it is working fine in Comm 4.
