User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0
Build ID: 20161104212021
Steps to reproduce:
Upon Launching Fire Fox for Mac 49.0.2, You are presented with a window entitled Software Update 49.0.2. Pressing the Restart button Causes Firefox to close and restart, however, the Software Update window also reappears. It must be closed on every startup. We have since updated to Firefox 50.0 and we still receive the window for 49.0.2 on each startup
Actual results:

Expected results:
We should have received this notice once while we were still using version 49.0.2
This problem only seems to present itself with certain user accounts.
Our Main account on our Mac is "family". The Firefow\x version there is 50.0 and the update window does not appear when opening Firefox. I have a second user account called "michaelm" where I do my dev stuff. When I am logged in as michaelm and I open Firefox, I will get the Software Update window every time. The Firefox version is 50.0

I have tested this issue on Mac OS 10.10 with Firefox (49.0.2) and the latest Firefox release (50.0) and could not to reproduce it.
After installing Firefox 49.0.2 and performing the update to 50.0, I have logout and login with another user. When checking Firefox with another user the browser starts normally, the Software Update window doesn't show and if I check to see the version of the browser, it has been updated to 50.0 as expected.
Could you specify the MAC OS user account types(Standard, Admin, Guest or other) you have used?

Stephen, would you be able to help out with this?

This could be due to an old downloaded update that was not yet capable of performing elevated updates.
Mike, could you do the following:
1. Open Terminal and type the following:
open ~/Library/Caches/Mozilla
2. Delete the folder "updates" and all of its contents.
3. Restart Firefox.
4. Open Firefox > About Firefox in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
5. If any updates are found, click the button to restart Firefox after the download has completed.
Please let us know if this fixes the issue.

Okay. It looks like there is a bit of a recursive problem happening with the Updates folder.
Following your instructions, I logged into the michaelm account(where the problem had been occurring)and I deleted the updates folder in ~/Library/Caches/Mozilla and it resolved the problem, however, following the second half of your instructions, I clicked on the available update (firefox 50.0.1) and restarted Firefox.
It appeared everything had been resolved.
I logged out of michaelm and logged back into the family account, and when I launched firefox, the update window appeared telling me to restart firefox. When I pressed the restart button the modal window reappears.
It will reappear each time I press the button.
It appears when Firefox is updated in one account, the update folders of other users isn't getting updated and it's confusing the app.

This should only be the case with old downloaded updates. New updates deal with this via elevated updates, which will set the proper permissions for future updates. Can you delete both updates folders for both users, then go through the steps again and see if this problem persists? Thanks!

I deleted the updates folders from Both Locations (Note: A new update folder had been created in michaelm account where I had deleted the previous one and after updating to 50.0.1), and now both instances of Firefox open without the modal software update window appearing.

Ok, great! Let's keep our fingers crossed that this was simply due to previously downloaded updates that were not yet capable of performing elevated updates. Please reopen this bug if the issue pops up again in the future. Thanks for your prompt replies on this!
