From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020311
BuildID:    2002031116

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit specified URL
2. Try typing in SEARCH HEADLINES field; it won't work
3. This works under other browsers
wfm using NS 2002031803 build on Win2K
Works for me too with mozilla 2002031803 under WinXP.
I'm getting this (W2K 2002031104), but it's irritatingly intermittent. Try
random typing and clicking on the dropdown - I can't see any pattern unfortunately.

Dropdown also stops responding to clicks - it has focus, but clicking on it does
nothing. Click elsewhere to remove the focus, then it works again.

I don't get any errors on the JS console.

Here is the source of the form - nothing strange about it that I can see apart
from the common trick of hiding the form's margin-bottom by placing the </FORM>
somwhere that it's not allowed:

<form name="RedirectSearch" action="http://redirect.wired.com/search" target="_top">
<font face="Verdana,Geneva,sans-serif" size="1"
color="#000000"><b>SEARCH&nbsp;HEADLINES</b>
</font>
<br>
<font face="courier" size="1">

<input type="TEXT" name="query" size="15" value="">

</select>

<input type="submit" name="submit" value="SEARCH">

</font>
</td></tr></form></table>

Can someone please confirm this bug, and change the OS to 'All' - I don't have
sufficient permission. The component may be wrong too.
WFM 2002031708/Win2K
Rusell: changed OS/2 -> All, but I won't confirm bug since your build is week old.
Reporter, Rusell, could you try newer build?
OS: OS/2 → All
reproed on build 2002031816
OK, confirming, and changing component to 'HTML form controls'.

Gili, can you still reproduce this consistently? Please can you give details of
*exactly* what you do to get this to occur? I can't figure out a pattern after
several minutes of clicking and typing!

Russell: for me there is no pattern. 100% of the time when I visit wired.com,
click on the input field and start typing it doesn't work. I recommend someone
try to repro this under OS/2 as it's much easier to repro on this platform and
this will hopefully speed up a fix.

saari, not sure which of the "Can't Type" bugs you want to dup this against.

Not seeing this on
Mandrake Linux 8.2  Mozilla 20020629.

A mouse/keyboard issue ?. (I mean the hardware)
Hi all,

I got the same bug under W2K with last Mozilla 1.4b, and also with Mozilla 1.3a,
but it works fine with release 1.2.1.

Sorry I don't have the build number, but I'm borring to reinstall Mozilla again
and again, at least 20 times since yesterday between these 3 releases.

The problem is in the peference window, to set the proxy address for example,
but also in the browser, like on google website.

If I can do some extra tests, please let me know.

Regards,
Herve.

I think this is the same bug I came accross:

Occasionally after typing, Mozilla no longer allows you to type in the text
fields. You can paste, but pressing keys won't have any effect. You have to
restart Mozilla to type again. This just happens randomly, and I haven't noticed
a pattern yet. The last time it happened, after restarting Mozilla, I couldn't
even paste (the option was greyed out on the right-click menu). I had to paste
using ctrl+v. Happened with Mozilla 1.4rc1 and 1.4rc3 (gtk2 versions). Using
SuSE Linux 8.2, installed Mozilla from rpms posted on ftp://ftp.suse.com.
