Details

This is a memory optimization that we plan to do eventually. It doesn't increase performance and adds complexity, so we'll probably to it later in the engineering cycle. There is a tiny bit of placeholder code for this in the tree right now, which I may end up removing and adding back later.
We decided not to do this.
