Details

I am prompted every time for the newsgroup username/password even though I ask Password Manager to remember it.

Yugo Nakai: can you still reproduce this with a recent Mozilla version (like 1.0RC3)? If not, mark this bug "worksforme"
Yes this bug is still present in 1.0RC3 (on Linux at least). The password manager presents 2 separate dialogs - one for the username and one for the password, they work for a while, then they are forgotten and the system reprompts with the 2 dialogs again - ususally when going to another newsgroup on the same newsserver. Checking the box to remember passwords ( which is on both dialogs) has no effect.
I have this bug as well, in 1.0 RC3. I was hoping it would have been resolved by now... I use it on Linux, but I've heard reports from my father that he gets the same bug using netscape 6.3 in windows... no word on the RC3 in windows, though.
winxp build Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1a+) Gecko/20020626 i get same problem. my news server (cwru) requires authentication, so i enter login/pw. however, i'll read like 30 or so messages and then it re-asks me for login and password. even if i check the "remember password" thing. gets reallllly annoying.
A few questions: 1. When you are reprompted for the username/password, is the form prefilled for you? 2. Can you look at the password manager dialog and see if the username/password was indeed saved just after you logged in. Is it still saved when you get reprompted? 3. Can you supply the name of a newsgroup that will demonstrate the problem and for which I will be able to create an account for myself.
1. The forms are never pre-filled ( why are there two?) 2. The password manager seems to have the username and news server. 3. Any of the internet news services will do ( giganews, easynews... ). Some very very cheaply. PS this seems to be the same problem as bug 96896
There are two form because that's how the mailnews team designed it. I never understood the rationale behind that. Yes, this is the same as bug 96896. Thanks for finding that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 96896 ***
