Several times I've needed to know the history for an incident and so have had to ask someone to paste the chat history. (For example to jump in to help mid incident, or to write up a postmortem with timestamps etc)

It would be great if we could enable logs (it's a public channel anyway), perhaps using :glob's logging via the logbot bot (http://logs.glob.uno).

For him to set up logging, he just needs an ack from a channel op/owner iirc.

Please can someone give that ack?

I had a situation recently where I wanted the log of #moc for something I was working on, luckily IRCcloud has an export feature and my instance had been persistent since last May.

Although I think it may be helpful in rare cases, I think there are reasons why we don't log.

CC'ing Ashish so he can possibly elaborate on those reasons.

Unfortunately that doesn't help people not in the channel at the time they want the transcript - I prefer to not be in dozens of channels "just in case" :-)

The only reason I can think for not logging is for "security", which doesn't make sense, given that the channel is public and anyone in it may be logging locally too. IMO if anything adding logs make it crystal clear that secrets should be avoided in the channel, and if any end up in it, then they must be rotated immediately.
