"Related Links" are now showing the same icons as bookmarks. That seems bad...
we should only show the "greenish bookmark icons" with URLs that have actually
been bookmarked, so we need a different icon for related links URLs.

Also, folders (such as the "Site Info" folder inside of the related links info)
need to have an appropriate "folder" icon. Currently, they don't appear as
folders.

German, we need an icon! Thanks!

forwarding this to shuang since this is heavily icon related.

Target Milestone: M12
1. We will have a new folder icon in commercial build hopefuly in M12 or after
B1. We will only replace icons for commercial build to have the Netscape look.

2. Related links will still use the bookmark icon. We will also have a new (sort
of) bookmark icon to match the new style. In time: M12.

Thanks!
I strongly disagree. "Related Links" items should NOT use the same icon as the
icon that we will use for bookmarks!

There are a lot of implications here. Related links are transitory, bookmarks
are not. We don't want to confuse a user into thinking that their "bookmarks"
(really related links) have disappeared on them, for example.
I can see your point, but I think these two also have very strong relationship.
A regular user will not be able to tell the technical difference. To a regular
user, click on a bookmark will go to a page, and a related link will do the
same. How to let them know that these links will go away? I think we may only
need to make some very subtle visual indication to address the transtory
character of Related links. Let me think about a good solution for this. But we
can only have bookmark icon for both use for B1 at this point.
Not all related links actually go to a particular website. Some links end up
going to Netcenter, Open Directory, etc. Some links are actually just "text
descriptions".

The statement "A regular user will not be able to tell the technical difference."
directly implies that we need a visual clue, i.e. different icons, to help make
it clear that there are differences.

Note that we already do this in certain spots in the UI when items are loading in
but haven't finished loading in. For example, we have a subtle animation icon
that indicates activity.

This is a simple thing to fix (just a new image file put in the proper place) so
it should be relatively painless to get it in for beta 1, right? :^)
Yes easy to fix for one. But I have more than 200+ in my hand that needs to be
done for dogfood( and the number is increase just like the one you wanted here
;-). No please, not for dogfood: a dog can't tell whether bookmark is green or
related link is white...
Also, I still believe that even you give a visual cue to it, for a normal John
Smith user,he probably still can't tell a difference. Look at today's 4.x mail
cached and not cached. How many of our email users can tell that there is a
difference (and why). They prbably don't need to know either (actually that's
what I really really meant in privous comments). When life is little bit
simpler, it is better. I'll stop here but still go back to find way to do this
after the famous dogfood mileston... Sorry.

Is "related links" still need a different icon?

Yes, Related Links should have different icons.
This doesn't seem like a stability blocker for M15.
Pushing to M16 to facilitate an M15 branch.

Is this still a useful report? If it is can someone please remove the Netscape
Confidential flag or if there is real proprietary info I'll be glad to file a
clean version so we can resolve this Netscape Confidential bug as invalid.
SPAM: mozilla 0.9 (and M1, and 0.8.1, etc.) has left the building. please
update the target milestone so we can get a good idea of what's left for 0.9.1.
Why is this still marked Netscape Confidential?
a clean version of this bug needs to be filed if it is going to remain open.

Related Links don't seem to be showing any icon at all these days, which is
different from what Bookmarks do.

(Also, I have no idea why this is in RDF.)

Can we close it?
Depends on: 468337
We don't have a Related Links menu item or button in our main UI (only the related links sidebar)
