People

(Reporter: 1way2life, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0
Build ID: 20161208153507

Steps to reproduce:

have a direct file link to AIFF (.aiff extension) audio files. Ctrl-Click Save link as... , choose location, and save.

Actual results:

File saved in location with incorrect file extension .aifc (which is AIFF Compressed format). This only started happening in versions 50 onward.

Expected results:

File should have saved with given AIFF (.aiff) file extension.

Could you provide such a link to reproduce the issue, please.

Apologies for the delay...

Here is a link to an AIFF test file (roughly 5 seconds of silence).

When attempting download on a Mac, do not manually enter the extension of .aiff at the end of the file on the download popup.

Thanks.
It could be a duplicate of bug 1320377 which is fixed in 51+.
Could you test with Beta (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/all/) and confirm if it's fixed or not.
Just got the beta of 51, tried again as described above... and same, .aiff file saves as .aifc.

So not fixed in 51 beta.
So it's another bug.

As you are able to reproduce the issue, could you download the tool mozregression to narrow down a regression range in FF50.
See http://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ for details.

Run the command "mozregression --good=49" then copy here the pushlog from the repository mozilla-inbound.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.11; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0

I have tested the reported issue on latest FF release (50.1.0) and latest Nightly build and could not reproduce it. Could you please retest this using latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ?
I can reproduce this in the latest Nightly (on Sierra) if I right click on the link and select "Save Link As". The "Format" dropdown in the save dialog says "*.aiff" but the resulting file on disk ends up with the ".aifc" extension.
In that case, could you use mozregression, please. We need a regression range to find the bug which caused the regression.
Assuming file extensions are hidden, this is bug 1321321.
