During recent discussions it came to light that we might be in a position to remove and redirect the /contribute pages, as the Participation team is no longer directing traffic towards www.mozilla.org (?). The /contribute/signup/ pages have been in a limbo state for some time, and are perhaps no longer the best channel to direct new contributors toward. Is there a more suitable, third-party site that we could now direct traffic toward - or are the mozorg pages still needed?
Lucy, can you please give an update on the state of these pages and if they are still being actively used? If they are no longer the best place to channel visitors to, can we remove the pages and redirect people to another destination?

Two questions: 1) Is there a way to save the page until we understand what to do with it? 2) Where would you link from on the moz.org site if you had something? Does this support the goals of the new moz.org content/direction? Thanks!!

The pages could be saved and the URLs simply redirected, but then we have version control so technically anything can be resurrected even if we delete the pages. > 2) Where would you link from on the moz.org site if you had something? Does > this support the goals of the new moz.org content/direction? This is a question we have for the participation team that we hoped you could answer (it's your goal, not ours really). I'm a little confused as it sounds like maybe you don't have anything else we could redirect visitors toward, is that the case?
> 1) Is there a way to save the page until we understand what to do with it? Further to this question, if having a /contribute page on mozorg is something you still want to keep long term, it may be better to find a more immediate resolution to bug 1275323, rather than redirect the pages temporarily.

I'm a little confused as it > sounds like maybe you don't have anything else we could redirect visitors > toward, is that the case? Let me try outlining some logic to see what you think: i) Getting more people isn't the focus right now -- we're trying to figure out the "what should people do" problem. But we do still want to communicate that we're open for business. ii) There are some exceptions to this like existing contribution areas, the new Campus Program, etc. iii) I'm very conscious that Mozilla Leadership Network will be launching a new site with opportunity areas (in mid-Feb) and that will be quite appropriate for the moz.org audience. iv) Anything we do now will be a temporary measure until we have the chance to think this through properly. Does that make sense? QUESTIONS for you: 1) Do you know how are you linking to the new MLN site? 2) It's unclear where this link would even sit in the new site -- top bar? Linked from Our Impact section? Alongside add-ons-careers-needhelp? 3) Would you be comfortable linking out to a page like https://www.whatcanidoformozilla.org or a wiki page/other site, or would we need to build/rebuild a landing page in the style of moz.org?
> QUESTIONS for you: > 1) Do you know how are you linking to the new MLN site? I don't know of any plans to link to the MLN site, but that's not to say we may do so once things are ready. The probably warrants a wider discussion. > 2) It's unclear where this link would even sit in the new site -- top bar? > Linked from Our Impact section? Alongside add-ons-careers-needhelp? This would likely be determined when we decide to do 1.) > 3) Would you be comfortable linking out to a page like > https://www.whatcanidoformozilla.org or a wiki page/other site, or would we > need to build/rebuild a landing page in the style of moz.org? This is certainly an option and something we can discuss further. But like I said above - I'm not sure if a temporary redirect is the best short-term solution. Fixing Bug 1275323 may be a better option to consider.
To summarize, it sounds like this bug is probably a WONTFIX, as the pages are likely to be wanted long term, and we don't have a short-term solution other than redirect to the whatcanidoformozilla community site.
