In Thunderbird set up an LDAP address book as follows:
1. Click "Address Book" -> "File" -> "New" -> "LDAP Directory..."
2. Under the "General" tab add the following:
- Name: Mozilla
- Hostname: addressbook.mozilla.com
- Base DN: dc=mozilla
- Port number: 636
- Bind DN: mail=<youremail>@mozilla.com,o=com,dc=mozilla
- Use secure connection (SSL): Yes
3. Under the "Advanced" tab add the following:
- Don't return more than: 100 results
- Scope: Subtree
- Search filter: (objectclass=*)
- Login method: Simple
4. Click OK.
5. Ensure that the Mozilla address book you just created is highlighted.
6. Type "m" in the search box.
## Result
There is no password prompt and no LDAP users are returned.
## Expected
You should be prompted for a password and then a list of all LDAP contacts beginning with "m" should be returned.
I am running MacOS Sierra (10.12.2) in case that is relevant.

Seems that addressbook.mozilla.com is not even pingable... is it maybe only available these days via VPN or has the hostname changed?

Nope, not accessible through the VPN either.

Michael, does this also happen with version 52?
bug 1344897 a partial duplicate?

Yup, still happens in 52.

Maybe... I don't see any error message but I am not running a debug build.
