User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 Build ID: 20161208153507 Steps to reproduce: I clicked Write, wrote a message, attached a JPEG file to it, and double-clicked on the attachment file name. Actual results: Nothing Expected results: The attachment should have opened with the default program. PDF attachments still open in the Write window but JPEG attachments do not.
JPG files do open. You most likely have some sort of misconfiguration. Check Tools > Options, Attachments, Incoming.

No such luck, Jorg. The incoming attachment options are correctly configured yet JPEG attachments do not open in the Write window (they do open in the Sent Message or Received Message window). I have e-mailed you a screen shot of the options windows. Thanks, Avner

I can open an JPG attachment from the attachment bucket in a compose window. You even confirmed that you can open a PDF. TB does not distinguish between JPG and PDF it simply hands the file to Windows for opening. If it doesn't open, your system is not configured correctly. We don't give support here, Bugzilla is for tracking bugs and there is no bug. This is a support question. You can get support here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird It's not that we won't fix an existing bug, there is no bug, hence your report is invalid. Please respect that decision. You can start TB without add-ons (see Help menu), or you can start Thunderbird with the -p option and configure a fresh new profile. I'm sure that on a fresh profile the JPG will open from the compose window. Sorry, there is really nothing we can do here.

I would very much like to respect your decision, Jörg, but the facts speak against it. I have started TB with all my add-ons disabled and with all my toolbars reset to the default ones, yet the issue persists. As you know, my Windows 10 system and my TB are correctly configured to open JPEG attachments, and they do in fact open in the Received and Sent message windows, but NOT in the attachment pane of the Write window (which you call “the attachment bucket of the compose window”). I have submitted a Support request on the Mozilla website but am not at all convinced that this not a bug. Sorry.
I'm on Win 10 and I can see JPGs without problems from the attachment bucket in write window,
Well, you sent me a private message listing your credentials, so here are mine: I'm a Thunderbird compose peer (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Modules/Thunderbird#Compose) and the window is in fact called the "compose window" and the attachment area is called attachment bucket internally: https://dxr.mozilla.org/comm-central/search?q=attachment+bucket&redirect=false As I said, start TB with the -p option to create a new profile and then we talk again if it still doesn't work on a new/fresh/clean profile. How can it be a bug it it works for me? Another thing you can do: Open the error console (Tools > Error Console) and empty it out by clicking on the trash can. Double-click the attachment in the bucket and then check the error console. Any errors reported?
