Steps how to reproduce NOT reproducible REPRODUCIBLE with Server-Installation of official en-US SeaMonkey 2.50a1 (NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0 Build 20170110004313 (Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit: 1. Launch SeaMonkey → Open Email Client 2. In thread pane on a message 'Rightclick → Open Message in new Window' » Message will be opened in separate window 4. Meneu 'Tools': "Message Filters ..." is greyed and inactive I can't see any reason why it should not be possible to open the Filters dialog from a message in a Separate Window. The dialog allows to select account and folder for which a filter is planned to be created or edited. a) in "Bug 241213 - Message window for .EML file needs working commands" this problem wrongly has been seen related to "Window with Message opened from HDD (.eml)", bit it's a general Separate-Window-Problem.

b) Same behavior in TB Daily 53.0a1 (2017-01-09) (64-bit)
Component: MailNews: General → Filters
Product: SeaMonkey → MailNews Core
So what account should be preselected in the opened filter list dialog?

Well, I didn't report it, I only shuffled it to the right person. No idea on the preset. I guess it's just opening a message in a separate window, not a message from a file. So can't you get the account just as if it were opened in a tab or the preview?
I think that's the point that in the separate window there is no "currently selected" account that we usually pre-select in the filter dialog. When msg is in a tab, there is (the window has the main 3-pane tab with a selection). So we can either settle on: 1. the default account 2. the account the message is in, if that can be determined (e.g. for msg opened from .eml file it can't). No problem, I asked the reporter.

(In reply to :aceman from comment #4) Optimum would be: 1. "The default account" for messages opened form an .eml (or other cases where the account can NOT be determined). 2. "The account the message is in" for messages opened from thread pane (or other cases where the account CAN be determined. I think "always the default account" would be ok.

I just came across this problem because the bugs I've reported with message tabs have me using message windows instead. If I'm correct in thinking that this is an easier problem to fix than the message tab bugs, then fixing this soon would be helpful to any of us who are reluctant to use message tabs right now.
