I set up Thunderbird for a friend, they use BT Business, their email address is an @btconnect.com address. When I entered their email address in the new account window the suggested settings were of the form *.outlook.com however these did not seem to work. According to the BT Business website the actual settings should be in the form *.office365.com as can be seen here:

https://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19539/~/setting-up-an-office-365-pop-email-account-in-outlook-2010-or-2013/c/5088/

Once I manually configured those settings Thunderbird downloaded their emails successfully.

The setup window also gave me the option of POP3 or IMAP but according to the following thread BT Business only supports POP3:

I have no idea if this problem is a duplicate of Bug 1185366 or unrelated, I thought I would report anyway in case it isn't.
I do think that this is related to Bug 1185366.

I have attached a configuration file which can be placed in the isp folder.

------------

# Configuration file on harddisk

Administrators may place a configuration file in the Thunderbird installation folder. This is
mainly intended for companies who install Thunderbird on their employees' computers and want to
enable easy account setup without having to set up a configuration server. This method is not
practical for other use cases, because it is difficult to update the configuration file.
Therefore, public ISPs should use a configuration server.

Place the configuration file(s) in the isp subdirectory/subfolder of the Thunderbird installation directory/folder (tb-install-dir).

     tb-install-dir/isp/btconnect.com.xml
