User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Build ID: 20170131145607 Steps to reproduce: It's since version 51 I have noticed this, where the new tab animation became faster. All I need to do to cause this bug to occur is use Firefox for a long period of time on the XFCE desktop environment. Actual results: The new tab animation becomes slow and laggy, both with and without electrolysis enabled. Also to fix this you need to restart the entire OS, it can't be fixed by just closing Firefox. Expected results: The animation should be smooth, like when you first open the browser.

Moving to p3 because no activity for at least 1 year(s). See https://github.com/mozilla/bug-handling/blob/master/policy/triage-bugzilla.md#how-do-you-triage for more information
Priority: P2 → P3
Severity: normal → S3

We made some significant improvements on gfx performance. It should be better now.
Also, make sure that your X/wayland isn't using software rendering without acceleration
