This error, along with a few others similar to it are a result of upgrading from docker 1.10 to docker 1.12.6.  I believe that this upgrade eliminated an error we were previously experiencing, but introduced a new one at about a rate of 6-8 per day.  So far I am not sure what is wrong but moving to docker 1.12.6 was necessary to also get a few new security updates.
