Maybe related to some change in Windows 8 image, or something like that? jmaher -- Any idea...or maybe you could redirect?

we haven't changed the win8 image in recent times :( win7 tc image we have often, but win8 is buildbot only.

this really picked up around April 3rd and broke our pattern of 1-3 failures/day- currently at 45 failures in the past week.

not sure if this is infrastructure or not, but when this is our screenshot:
http://mozilla-releng-blobs.s3.amazonaws.com/blobs/autoland/sha512/a3c327e73e434ebb5437787f4977c41cc82c74726e4b603b3002a4ea86ca527340a5725990fbdb7abd39df39ca816bd6af2bdcd278f610b06f559561eb2e03e7

I suspect we are locked up after a fresh reboot and never get into the user space properly?

odd, this is only reftest/crashtest/jsreftest- so something in that harness is causing this problem, and this is primarily on debug.

this case is different:

we get a screenshot with |skip metro suite 3.1.0.0| is available| dialog.

in fact many of the newer failures are related to the skip metro suite.

Q, are you familiar with the skip metro suite, maybe there is something interesting there that we do need to update and/or adjust.

I see the popup oddly enough that suite was installed to avoid focus issues with tests. It looks like it needs an update and to have the popups disabled.

Q- is this something you can do, or do we need to find someone else to work on updating the tool and disabling the popup?
Could be something real this time, but we've gone around with that popup before, and I think we came to the conclusion that it's there all the time and we only see it when we take a screenshot without having a browser window (or, if we still have it open all the time, can't remember, that whatever-Win8-calls-File Explorer window) to cover it.
Q- can you look into fixing the skip metro tool? while that might be a red herring, we won't know until it is gone.
Flags: needinfo?(q)
GPO disable_hot_corners has been updated with the new and last version "3.1.0.0" of this binary. It no longer pops up. Next reboot all win 8 systems should not get this message.

thanks for fixing this Q; in the screenshots on failures I do not see the skip metro tool anymore. We still get screenshots with the win metro interface/main screen- I suspect this is not really related (I agree with :philor in comment 16).

lets see how this failure rate continues over the coming week or two :)
as this is primarily windows 8 and we are looking to replace windows 8 with windows 10 in the shorter term, I will only speak up here if this really spikes, right now the frequency is staying fairly low.
low failure rate for the last copule weeks, I don't think we can easily reproduce this to investigate, will monitor in case this picks up again.
