User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0
Build ID: 20170125094131
Steps to reproduce:
I like the URL graying/de-emphasizing, it's a very good idea but it's too aggressive and wrongly graying elements of the URL that should be black. For example, when you go to https://twitter.com/firefox, the "firefox" portion is gray. Same with instagram accounts. I've included a screenshot showing this.
tumblr accounts are probably the best example of how overly aggressive Firefox is with the graying portions of the URL. go to http://mozilla.tumblr.com , the "mozilla" is the only part that's de-emphasized! This really does need to be fixed

I honestly don't see a problem here, and I wonder if you misinterpreted the fature.
The scope of the de-emphasize is to clarify the root host you are on, so in the first case it's instagram.com and the second case it's tumblr.com.
Emphasizing more than that means emphasizing www.firefox.mozilla.com.bad.com vs just bad.com, that would basically make this soft-security feature completely useless, since some users could just think they are on a mozilla domain and give less value to the bad.com part.

I see. Is there a way to turn off the graying then? I would prefer all black text
