Build ID: 20170127014032
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Thunderbird
2. Go to Inbox of mail account
3. Click on 1 or more emails to delete
4. Click Delete
Alert box with this message appears:
"There is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try deleting old mail, emptying the Trash folder, and compacting your mail folders, and then try again."
Verified that system hard drive has 82.9 GB of free space
Found that "Inbox" is 113 MB and Trash is empty
Tried compacting folder and only 761 KB saved
Tried deleting just 1 email with same result
Exited Thunderbird and restarted
Tried deleting just 1 email with same result
Tried deleting email of another account and all OK
Actual results:
Alert box with this message appears:
"There is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try deleting old mail, emptying the Trash folder, and compacting your mail folders, and then try again."
Expected results:
Should have deleted selected email(s)
It is interesting you would get this error on a delete. It may be that the Trash folder is rejecting the new message being copied to it.
Are those folders on IMAP server? Or is it a POP3 server?
Can you check the size of the Trash folder from inside Thundebird? Go via View->Folders-> Folder pane columns. Then in the header row of folder pane, use the picked to show Size of folder.
The other account that can delete messages, is it moving them to the same Trash folder?

The folders were on a POP3 server. Trash was emptied. Each account has its own Trash.
However, today I am able to delete emails, so let us just say that it must have been bad Karma.
Thank you for your help.
Still, the message makes you wonder how it could happen.

Summary: Erroneous error message about disk space → Erroneous error message about disk space for pop account if Trash folder not working/accessible
Whiteboard: [dupme]
I don't think 944923 is related, it claims the problem may be the 4Gb limit of a folder.
The bug here has both folders very small.
Anyway, until the reporter can reproduce it again, we can't do much.
