User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.76 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: Tried 0.51 but eventually fresh 0.52b9 build from Debian Unstable (same problem everywhere). The browser was working fine yesterday, now the problem started, i.e. out of nowhere. Note: I have about 100 tabs open (they are restored via SessionManager add-on) and I have also Noscript installed, but I actually have reset its settings to default while looking for some cure. Anyhow, this combo has been working fine for years. Actual results: The browser freezes repeatedly (full UI freeze, repainting stops). This happens usually while I am entering something (like URL). It hangs for about 30s, then it becomes suddenly usable for about a minute, then it freezes again, then it unblocks again, and so on. Expected results: No sudden freezing :-) I installed debug symbol packages and made a full stack trace (see attachment), maybe this helps you guys to spot the problem. I also stored a full-mem dump but it's way too big to make it public and also might contain sensitive data. Let me know if I need to run something for more debugging (I am not that unfamiliar with it...).
I could not reproduce this issue. Can you please do the following: 1. Could you try running your Firefox version with a new profile? If it still freezes, then we know that is something not related to your profile configs or the add-ons you are usually running. 2. If according to 1, changing the profile fixes the problem, then could you try using an older version that was working for you with both the new profile and with your profile? 3. Could you try installing and running a stock Firefox version?

I tried to reproduce it with the plain upstream version (although keeping the addons active)and I couldn't. It worked stable for half an hour. So I followed this to Debian, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=856976 .
Ok. Keep us updated on this end. Please close this issue when this has been solved.
Wait, I am sorry. It looks like the test was not correct. When I restored the old session (with session manager add-on) the problem started happening with the upstream version as well. So this is probably caused by some of the 100 tabs. The solution is not clear but I have a hunch, it might be originating from the ScrapBook addon. It is causing similar full-browser-freezes when the menu opens (probably doing IO on UI thread, since it's hardly a problem with the SSD nowadays) and now I turned it off for testing and it seems to work ok.

With WebExtensions being the only valid way of doing extensions in Firefox 57, I don't think this bug is still relevant.

As said, uninstalling the suspect solved the issue. Since it's no longer available for the new API, this issue can be considered solved. Not that I care... I use FF now only when I have to, since my most favorite extensions were fscked with FF57 and they were the main reason I kept using FF.
