Hi All,
I am running Windows NT 4.0, sp6a and mozilla-win32-0.9.9-installer.exe.
Where I try to log into http://207.228.41.46/jwalk/assessor.html, I get
the following error message: "Enable java before trying to update your
cached installation." (Java is enabled in my advanced settings.)
After clicking "Okay" on the error box, it prompts you to download
jre131_02i.xpi. This doesn't help either.
Note: this web site does work with IE 5.5, sp1 & 2. Editorial comment: :(
Can you get this web site to work with jwalk. I "s u p p o s e" I could
use IE, but ....
Many thanks,
--Tony

are you sure its not a jre install problem, did you move the java files manually
to your plugins dir ? jre1.3 had a problem installing on mozilla.
Unfortunately, it is not the missing java files problem. That was
the first thing I tried. Tried jre 1.4 as well -- copies those
over too. No luck. :-(. (Rats!)

Triaging old unconfirmed bugs.
Tried this site today with build 2002070310 and didn't get any warnings about
enabling Java. But Java never fired up and the applet never loaded, either.
Looking at the mass of scripting going on in the page, I wonder if this is an
evang issue.
Definitely looks like an Evangelism, not sniffing mozilla. Moving to correct
component.

Hi All,
I am the original poster of this bug. Please reassign
it to Tech Evangelism.
Also, the site I reported is purchasing jwalk from
Seagull software. They can be reached at http://jwalk.com/
(They have no intention of supporting anything other than
IE, so I truly wish you all luck.)
And, the site I reported is used by both realtors and
real estate appraisers. It is not an optional site that
can be ignored because of "principles". If a work around
is not made, no realtors or appriases in my area will even
even consider using Mozilla.
Many thanks,
--Tony
The following error appears in the JS console, I was just wondering whether
mozilla should support calls to objects that used to exist under NS4.x for
backwards compatability.
Error: netscape.softupdate has no properties

Reassign to owners of component, move back to Tech Evangelism if it's a wontfix.

Yes, this is an Evangelism issue. The |netscape.softupdate| object,
or "SmartUpdate", is a feature of NN4.x that is no longer supported.
The replacement is the XPInstall architecture. See, for example:
bug 61656 "SmartUpdate Failed in Netscape 6"
bug 60526 "lazy activation of objects is too lazy", which contains:
----- Additional Comment_ #2 From dveditz@netscape.com 2000-11-17 20:50 -----
The netscape.softupdate.* package was implemented in Java and accessed
via Liveconnect. Netscape's JVM is gone in 6.0 so "SmartUpdate" has been
re-implemented as "XPInstall". The InstallTrigger object replaces
netscape.softupdate.Trigger, for example.

Hi Susie,
Sorry it took me so long to get back.
The base URL is: http://www.carson-city.nv.us/Assessor/
Click on the link on the right called "Property Information"
It doesn't work under IE6. Interesting. I just
ran it under IE 5.00.3502.1000. Hmmmmm?!?!?
maybe IE 5 got just a little too proprietary for
itself :-D
Many thanks,

Marc, that site appears to be using an older version SEAGULL J Walk Java Client
3_1C10 which is behind the current? 3_2... If you have an issue with another
site, please file a bug on it. You can also ask them to upgrade.
