Details
If file->"save as" is selected on a page that is password protected, the saving dialog appears but the page is not saved. It appears that instead of saving the page, Mozilla is trying to communicate with the server and perhaps re-get the page for some reason. Most likely it can't authenticate on it's own and is getting stuck. Expected behaviour would be to just save the page - there's no reason to talk to the server when the page that needs to be saved is already in the browser.

worksforme with linux build 20020329. what build are you using? Mozilla gets the page again because of bug 40867 are you talking about SSL or simple password protection?

This is directly due to bug 76212, although you shouldn't be seeing this on http sites, onlt ftp ones, because http will cache it for you. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 76212 ***
