Deletion was requested while (or perhaps right after) sync for the project the strings belongs to was in progress.
The user confirmed he saw the "Oops, something went wrong" notification while trying to delete a string. After he tried again, translation got deleted successfully.
I'm not sure if the error can also happen when adding new or changing existing translations.

Not sure if related, but noticed this yesterday:
Go to https://pontoon.mozilla.org/fr/amo/all-resources/
Select all strings
Try to replace ' with ’
Click replace all -> Something went wrong is displayed

Not related, that's probably bug 1344322. The fix hasn't landed yet, but it wouldn't fix the issue in the current form. Reopenning.
