Did you try to create a new profile and update Firefox through this new profile? https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Install-and-Update/Use-the-Profile-Manager-to-create-and-remove-Firefox-profiles/ta-p/2914

Happens to me as well mac os X el capitan 10.11.6 firefox 60.0.2 trying to update to 61
dotanrs, could you also try creating a new profile and updating Firefox from it? The link above is out of date, the correct one now is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles; you'll find instructions there for how to create and use a new profile. Thanks.

Mac OS 10.11.6 "El Capitan" using the latest Firefox 64.

I occasionally get a pop-up window, such as this morning while visiting:

https://www.macrumors.com/2019/01/04/apple-phishing-scams-growing-more-advanced/

. . . and the pop-up stems from within Firefox - over at the upper-right of the Firefox window ("Open menu") "button"

. . . stating: "Firefox can't update to the latest version." "Download a fresh copy of Firefox and we'll help you install it."

That pop-up has two buttons: "Not Now" and "Download Firefox"

I opened a new Firefox window and went to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ in order to see if there was a new version? Answer: No.
