User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170302120751

Steps to reproduce:

clicked on Tag in the Mail Toolbar, clixked Manage Tags, selected a specific tag and then clicked Edit.

Actual results:

Thunderbird froze/crashed and had to be 'endTasked' using the Windows 10 Task Manager. Started again normally but the same pattern occurs every time I attempt the Tag Edit task.

Expected results:

Should have been able to edit tage eg change color.
Does same thing happen with https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Troubleshooting/Safe-Mode-Thunderbird/ta-p/14020 ?
If yes, does it also happen if Windows is started in safe mode?

The same thing happens when Thunderbird is in Safe Mode.

It does not happen when Windows 10 is in Safe Mode - The edit screen shows normally.
Doesn't crash for me, neither in TB 45 nor Daily on Windows.

The conclusion then, regardless of jorgk's findings, you have something loading in Windows startup that is causing the crash. You will need to figure out what that is.

Aha - I see what happened. I have a dual-monitor setup and Thunderbird runs on the right-hand monitor. When I go to edit a tag, the very small dialogue opens on the left of the left-hand monitor. Amongst a number of other open windows it is hard to spot. And until you have dismissed the dialogue, Thunderbird remains frozen, for all the world as though it had crashed.

Sorry to have wasted your time but thanks for your response!
