User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0 Build ID: 20170125094131 Steps to reproduce: click "get messages" button Actual results: nothing happened, checked error messages and see this: "Timestamp: 09/03/2017 12:45:01 PM Error: An error occurred executing the cmd_getNewMessages command: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8055000a [nsIMsgIncomingServer.getNewMessages]" nsresult: "0x8055000a (<unknown>)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js :: GetNewMsgs :: line 2712" data: no] Source File: chrome://global/content/globalOverlay.js Line: 103" quit, relaunched, same thing. I can send out and see the message waiting on the web mail interface but thunderbird still does not collect it Expected results: new mail should be downloaded
Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win7 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17419/windows-7-advanced-startup-options-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird Does problem go away?
Flags: needinfo?(plasmatronlaboratories)
Yes, the problem goes away if i start in safe mode with networking, however I am then left with only one monitor at a crazy resolution, etc. Any way to run windows 7 in regular mode and still have thunderbird work?

> Any way to run windows 7 in regular mode and still have thunderbird work? check to find what software is loading on Windows startup that is causing the problem. Typically antivirus (McAfee for example) or firewall software.

this should be re-opened. I rebooted the windows machine having troubles in regular mode (not safe with networking) and confirmed the problem still persisted. I did not change anything on that CPU, nor did anything change with our LAN/firewall etc. I then was working on another windows machine, also running windows 7, but at a different location on a different LAN and behind a different firewall. Thunderbird collected mail just fine there. I came back to the original office that had the CPU that was not collecting new mail, did not change anything, launched thunderbird and all the mail since it stopped collecting new mail came in at once. Important to note was the problem machine stopped collecting new mail the day after I used the other machine to collect mail at the other location a week ago. So to recap: Machine 1 on LAN A was working fine Machine 2 on LAN B was then used to collect new mail Machine 1 on LAB A STOPPED collecting new mail Machine 2 on LAN B was used to collect new mail Machine 1 on LAN A STARTED to collect new mail again. Nothing changed on my side in terms of new installs or setup, the only difference was booting Machine 1 on LAN A into safe mode with networking to see if the problem went away (it did) but then booting the machine back into regular windows mode brought the problem back.
Let me put this differently - there must be a piece of OTHER software that is causing this problem, often it is antivirus, that loads during Windows startup. Why? Because when you start in safe mode, the problem is gone - and safe mode prevents OTHER software from loading. The problem is *not* thunderbird.
