Details
Bug created based on a thread on the SUMO Community Discussions forum.
https://support.mozilla.org/t5/SUMO-community-discussions/SUMO-user-labels/m-p/1375892#U1375892
Currently, all active contributors are labeled as "SUMO Contributor" but on the forum, users asking for support may not be aware of what SUMO is. BruceAJohnson suggested to either use SUMO more often on the website or change it to something else other than SUMO contributor.
Summary: [user role] Change "SUMO contributor" role to something more recognizable. → [user role] Change "SUMO contributor" title to something more recognizable.

My preference would be to use Sumo more often.
Especially if not already done ensure it is mentioned in the workflow for asking questions and for initially registering to ask questions. Has sufficient action been taken now ?
The Contribs thread mentioned is marked solved

As I suggested in the discussion thread, I would simply change "SUMO Contributor" to "Mozilla Support Contributor". Another option would be to just use "Contributor" as the user role label.
By the way, the "Request to be a Contributor" link on the home page, http://bit.ly/2kMNfdY
goes to a google form, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScJU_9KPjgayBQJNmfxioVpm0EUDDStwtphWMeo2LrD1TZ2_w/viewform#responses?utm_source:frontpage&utm_campaign:NewContributor that starts with this:
"So you want to be a SUMO Contributor...
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Contributor! We really appreciate your positive energy and enthusiasm for Mozilla's mission and its users."
"SUMO Contributor" should either be changed to "Mozilla Support Contributor" or else the form should explain that "SUMO" means the Mozilla Support website (SUpport.MOzilla.org).

I'll NeedInfo Rachel on this bug, for her thoughts (see my comment 2 above).
Flags: needinfo?(rmcguigan)
I think that even if "SUMO" is used more on the website, the average person looking for support will still not understand or see the explanation.
I agree that we should change "SUMO Contributor" to "Mozilla Support Contributor". Then there will be no question in anyone's mind.

I changed the form to say "Mozilla Support" in each of the places it said SUMO. Not a problem.
As it might be the front door, I also included a short explanation of the term SUMO in the confirmation message.

Thanks for fixing the google form at http://bit.ly/2kMNfdY but this bug is about the "SUMO Contributor" title on the support site itself. I still see the title "SUMO Contributor" for Bruce A. Johnson in the discussion thread, https://support.mozilla.org/t5/SUMO-community-discussions/SUMO-user-labels/m-p/1375892
This should be fixed now. Please confirm and reopen if necessary.
