When playing a video in the Kodi media player[1] in the background, switching to gmail or interacting with gmail becomes noticably slower. A profile[2] shows that switching to gmail causes two long LayerTransactions, caused by a lot of time spent unter mozilla::gl::TextureImage::UpdateFromDataSource.

I couldn't reproduce the issue when playing videos in the browser, and it's much more pronounced on a high-resolution screen like my rMBPs builtin screen. There's still a lag when using an external monitor, but it's definitely less bad.

Note that Kodi, while using the GPU, doesn't cause a full load on it. I also wasn't able to reproduce the lag in either Chrome or Safari.

I've been told that on OS X, all of our compositor jankiness should be re-measured once bug 1265824 gets fixed.
Depends on: 1265824
(FWIW this shouldn't be related to Gmail.)

Yes, this is something where OS X is behind, and bug 1265824 would help, if not take care of it completely. Could treat this as a duplicate, but since there is a specific workflow, being blocked by bug 1265824 is the right call.
