User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Build ID: 20170302000000 Steps to reproduce: (Version is 45.0.8 ESR) I have a Firefox with multiple windows and multiple tabs open. In one windows there was a pop-up prompt for Authentication (Firefox dialog) which I ignored (I switched to another window). At some point I refreshed a page that requires login (where the password manager knows the credentials). Actual results: For some reason, the loading of the page never seemed to complete. Tracing it I found that the page reports an "401 Unauthorized", but Firefox never pops up the dialog for the password manager, not does it display the form to enter authentication data. I strongly suspect the problem is due to another Firefox window having a authentication pop-up open. Actually after switching Windows and trying to close the other dialog, all Firefox windows became unresponsive and grayed out. Expected results: The authentication form should have appeared.
The OS was Windows 7 (64-bit), but Firefox was 32bit (just in case this is relevant).

Yang, do you remember such a bug report with the same issue? I'm sure there is an old bug report about a similar issue about password modal blocking a 2nd modal on another window.

I'm not sure and did not find it.

Summary: GUI lockup when password manager pop-up should open → GUI lockup when password manager HTTP auth dialog should open

In Firefox 60.6.1 it is different: When an authentication popup is open, I cannot switch to another tab!
I don't know whether this is better or even worse, however.

That was always the case… making it not block tab switching is bug 613785.

So is the original issue still a problem?

The problem seems to be fixed: I can't switch tabs while the password popup is open; when I close it and switch windows that works, and if I return to the original windows later, it reports a "401". When I reload that page, a password popup appears again, so that's good enough.
