Open a page in CustomTabs, find and long-click on any link to show up Context Menu. There is a option "Open Link in New Tab", click it to show up Snack-bar to switch to Fennec. Expect result: we should move from CustomTab to Fennec then see the new-opened-page Actual result: CustomTabs open the new link in itself, and we can see the new-opened-tab in Fennec. If we close the tab, CustomTabs will be closed as well.

Should in theory be fixed by bug 1351739 - we'd detect that the current activity doesn't match the tab type of the newly selected tab, so we launch the correct activity and handle the tab switch from there.

I will mark this bug as verified to keep tack of P1 bugs for Phase1 of CustomTab. When long press on a link from a page opened in Customtab, from context menu we can choose from Open in new tab or Open in private tab, and for both of options a snackbar is displayed with the message: New tab Opened|Switch. Devices: HTC Desire 820 (Android 6.0.1) and Nexus 9 (Android 7.1.1). Build: Nightly 55.0a1 from 2017-05-17.

The initial implementation of GeckoView-based custom tabs (bug 1356346) will break this again.
