Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Build ID: 20170329150444 Steps to reproduce: Selected preferences -> Advanced -> update tab Actual results: The page does not allow 'always check' or 'never check' for updates Expected results: I should have seen an option where I could set firefox not to update automatically when a new release was available. It does appear to work correctly in ff 55 (20170401)
This isn't really a bug in FF52. The version of FF 52 just released through the ubuntu distribution channel works as I described however, replacing that with a fresh copy of 52.0.2 from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ brings back the option for auto update, 'tell me' and never update. The implication here is that it may be desirable to withdraw firefox from the distro update cycle (apt-mark hold firefox). I'm not sure what the down side is of doing that.

We don't manage any Firefox Linux distributions at Mozilla. Please file a bug with the distribution itself. Not positive this is the right place for this distribution but it is a start. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bugs
