Build ID: 20170316213829
Steps to reproduce:
I have Thunderbird set so that it notifies me when an update is released, but does not automatically update the program. Yesterday (4/4/2017) I received notification of an update to revision 45.8.0. Before I installed it, I exported my profile to my desktop for safety, using the import/export extension. Then I deleted my existing version of Thunderbird (like I always do) and installed the new version 48.5.0 as a clean install. So far, everything was fine - until I went to import my old profile. The import/export extension is no longer listed and I have no way of importing my old profile. Since the import/export extension is no longer available, I selected the "Import" option on the drop down menu. That didn't give me any way of importing my old profile. Next, I closed Thunderbird and attempted to copy over the contents of my old profile into the new one manually.
Actual results:
None of my existing calendar dates are present, and all of my E-mails from the year 2012 until present are lost. If I go into my profile and look at the Mail folder, I can see recent dates, but they don't show up in the program.
Expected results:
I would have expected me to be able to import my old profile intact. I an NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!!! If you're going to put out a version of a program that makes the existing options obsolete, I expect you to warn me about the ramifications. I NEED MY LOST E-MAIL and I want to know how to get them back.

The process you describe is horrible and not something anyone here would recommend. In addition, it intimately involves an addon which we neither support nor control. You need to contact the author of the addon. In addition, I suggest you post in a support forum (google Thunderbird Support) to develop a more sustainable and less broken upgrade process.

Thanks for nothing, Wayne. The update process I follow is anything BUT "horrible", and if you lived in the real world of lousy software that rarely works as intended, you would agree with me. Obviously, you don't own any Nvidia graphics cards or you wouldn't say such idiotic things like that.
Regardless, this is the last time I'm fighting Thunderbird upgrades. As much as I hate it, I'm switching to Outlook. At least Microsoft has a decent customer service department that doesn't insult it's customers. (PS: I'm a retired computer hardware design engineer with a BS in EE from the University of Michigan.)
