1355881 - Unable to update using latest nightly

Hi, I recently bought a new laptop with windows 10 Creators Update and Installed the latest 64 bit nightly as of 10th April 2017. Since then, nightly is unable to install the latest patch update. Here is what I observe:

* Nightly shows update is installed (via the hamburger menu) and asks me to click here apply and restart.
* I click on it. All parent and content process stop in task manager
* nightly updater process starts along with another nightly process consuming 0% CPU and 2.5 MB memory.
* After couple of seconds, the nightly updater process stops, but the nightly process is still running, sitting idle, doing nothing.
* After waiting for several minutes, I kill that idle nightly process. Before killing it, starting nightly via shortcut or exe file wont have any effect whatsoever.
* After killing that process, I start nightly. It did not upgrade and its back to step 1


I have tried with a fresh profile and the behavior is same.

Any idea about this? I initially put this under installer as I thought that the initial installer of nightly on my new device has some issues that its not able to provide correct permissions to the updater or register the service correctly. In the services list, I do not see Nightly Updater as automatically running service.

As a constanly running process/service - no.
As a registered service - yes. It is set as automatic, but remains stopped, when I try to start it manually, it stops immediately.

If the service is getting crashed, can I find the logs anywhere?

It isn't suppose to run all of the time.

Not really. Were there any bug fixes done related to this? I am still on 55.0a1 (2017-04-19) (64-bit) which somehow got updated (from 55.0a1 (2017-04-16) (64-bit) - which i installed manually from the installer again) before a cold start (I guess). But the general problem still persists. Even if I click the button to upgrade right now, i would notice the same steps as presented in the description.

Do you know if you have Nahimic software installed? If you are unsure could you open regedit and search for Nahimic?

Yes, I have nahimic 2 installed.

This is the same as bug 1356637 which is being worked on so duping this bug to bug 1356637
