Hi Yadaiah,

I have tested this issue but I haven't managed to reproduce it. Firefox ESR 52.1.0 is working on every launch. I have also set the Firefox ESR to launch at Windows 7 startup and is working as expected. I haven't encountered any issues or errors.

Is there any additional steps in order to reproduce the issue?
Also can you please retest this issue using a new clean Firefox profile, to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause and report back the results? Here is a link that could help you: https://goo.gl/Fif1ib.

Hi Cosmin,

FF ESR 52.1 stops working on first launch and tried uninstall, reinstall, reboot machine and deleted user profile, created new user profile, launching on safe mode also not working. Also tried disabling Antivirus software during installation not working. But FF ESR works fine after disabling multi process feature(browser.tabs.remote.autosatart2 set to false) even with the old user profile when it is crashed. Do I need to register any DLL during FF installation to work with the multi process?

Thank you.

From what I know, you don't need to register any DLL during FF installation.

Can you please retest the latest Firefox ESR (52.1.0) version from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.1.0esr/win64/en-US/ ?

Or if you have Windows 7 x32 bits please download it form here:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.1.0esr/win32/en-US/

I tried installing both 64 bit and 32 bit versions from the above links on 64 bit windows 7 machine, FF 64 bit version works fine but FF 32 bit version stops working from second launch on wards with the above reported error.

Yadaiah, can you please do more tests for me?

1. Disable the Antivirus software and try to launch Firefox ESR x32 and see if it works.

2. Navigate to "about:config" page and set the "security.sandbox.content.level" pref to "0", but leave the multi process on ("browser.tabs.remote.autosatart2" set to "true"). Then retest if the issue is still reproducible.

Please let me know if one of the methods works.
Thanks!

Hi Cosmin,

1. Firefox 52.1 ESR x32 is not working after disabling antivirus.

2. Firefox works fine with the setting "security.sandbox.content.level" pref to "0" even with the multi process on.
Flags: needinfo?(myadaiah)
I am not much familiar with this setting ("security.sandbox.content.level" pref to "0"), does it allowed in the enterprise and what are the consequences or side effects for this setting?

Thank you.

Regards,
Yad.
No, these settings are only internal to the working of Firefox.
@Yadaiah, Thanks for retesting this!

Based on comment 8, probably the sandbox security has something to do with this. Owen, can you please take a look at this issue?

Thanks!

Hi, sorry for the delay in getting to this.

Given that we can't reproduce, is this installation of Windows unusual in any way, any customisations in the install or configuration?

Also, can you try a couple of things for me please.

Firstly would mind testing with the latest Beta version of Firefox:

  https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/

If you want to create a separate Firefox profile for testing, so as to not affect your existing one, you can run Firefox Beta with the following command line flags:

  firefox.exe -no-remote -P

Secondly, can you try getting some logging out by running Firefox ESR with the following environment variables set from a command prompt:

  set NSPR_LOG_FILE=%TEMP%\bug1358497log.txt
  set NSPR_LOG_MODULES=SandboxBroker:5,SandboxTarget:5,sync
  set MOZ_WIN_SANDBOX_LOGGING=1
  firefox.exe -no-remote -P

You should get files in your temp directory like this bug1358497log.txt, bug1358497log.txt.child-1

Please attach any non-empty ones to the bug.
They will possibly contain your Windows user profile name, so you may want to create a temporary one for testing, remove them from the files or you can email the files instead if you prefer.
