Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:54.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/54.0
Build ID: 20170420011827

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox 53 beta 1. Win 7 64 bit. With several tabs already open, I opened a flash app in a new tab. Navigate to any other tab and then back to the flash app.

NOTE: This may be linked to Bug 1330003 as the scenario is quite similar

Actual results:

All buttons on Flash app have stopped working and cursor does not go to 'hand' icon on mouse over either. Select 'Alt' key to show browser menu and button return with cursor to 'hand on mouse over too.

Expected results:

Buttons should have remained working when navigating to flash app tab without any additional steps required.

Surprisingly, further investigations show that removing the line <body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0"> from the html page and thus the margin settings, the issue seems to resolve.
Trying several combinations, it appears that it is only leftmargin="0" that actually causes the issue. Top, right or bottom seem to have no adverse effect (at least in my environment).

Firefox: 53.0, Build ID: 20170413192749

Hi reginaldlather,

I have tested this issue but I haven't managed to reproduce it. I have opened 10 tabs and a flash website (http://www.sensisoft.com) in a new tab. After I have navigate through the tabs, when I have returned to the website with flash content, the buttons worked as expected and I haven't encountered any issues. But, I was able to reproduce the issue describe in bug 1330003.
I have tested on latest Firefox (53.0) release x32,x64 and also on latest Beta 54.0b1 x64.

Can you please provide a test case or the flash app with which you have managed to reproduce the issue?

Managed to reproduce on the site you gave in a heartbeat -see attached mwv
Scenario:
Step:1 Start on your linked site - you see that buttons are functioning fine on mouseover
Step2: Navigate to this bug report tab and then nagigate back to sensisoft.com tab and the mouseover no longer works
Step3: hit Alt key to get firefox menu and button mouse over function returns.

As I said in my other post removing the margin = 0 in the html page should will resolve this but I have no control over sensisoft.com html page.

This does not happen in IE or Opera. Happy to help further if I can
Thanks for the provided information.

But I still can not reproduce the issue. I have also tried with e10s disabled and hardware acceleration off, but I haven't managed to reproduce it. Do you have any add-ons installed? If yes, can you please provide the list with the add-ons?

Also, Can you please retest this issue using a new clean profile to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause? Here is a link that can help you: https://goo.gl/FlWmpS.

No add-ons except for Flash 25.0.0.148
Created new clean profile, retested - same result

If you could enlighten me regarding e10s I'll have a look into it.
Also, just remembered about an earlier bug(bug 1311867) so entered about:config. The dom.ipc.plugins.asyncdrawing.enabled was still set to true. Setting this to false also resolves the issue.

Hope all this helps

Oh, now I can reproduce it. Thanks for clarifying this!

It seems that the browser has to be "Maximized" and the "dom.ipc.plugins.asyncdrawing.enabled" pref set to true in "about:config" page in order to reproduce the issue.

I have manged to reproduce it on latest Firefox (53.0) release, latest Beta(54.0b2) and latest Nightly (55.0a1) build but only on x32 versions on Windows 7.

I will also test this issue tomorrow on Mac Os and Linux.

Any update on this annoying issue?
Flags: needinfo?(cosmin.muntean)
As far as I know there are no updates on this issue. This is still reproducible on latest Firefox (54.0 x32) release and latest Nightly (56.0a1 x32, Build ID: 20170626030209) build.

The issue is not reproducible on Firefox builds with x64 bits. @reginaldlather, you can download the latest Firefox (54.0) release with x64 bits from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/54.0/win64/en-US/

Managed to repo this on the forge of empires site, str:

1) maximize window
2) load up the game
3) open a new content tab, click in its content
4) switch back to the game, try interacting using the mouse

result: mouse events ignored

5) restore the window
6) test again

result: mouse events processed

Looks like this might be a dupe of bug 1386803.

Fx is sending input events to flash but for some reason Flash ignores them. Was thinking this might have something to do with focus events, but a wip work around for that hasn't helped. Still digging.

Just testing on the Forge of Empires game using the latest Flash beta 27, the maximized event issue seems to be addressed.
