It is nice that mail can be sorted on all fields available in the mail overview pane. However, it would sometimes be most useful to sort the emails by order of appearance in the mailbox. If the mailbox is not threaded, it is often most useful to sort mail by date, but sometimes a mail comes in with a way off date and it gets badly misplaced. In principle, this would be not sorting the mail at all, except that it would sometimes be nice to have them in reverse order of appearance. I am aware that as of now there is no indication in the message as to when it actually arrived in the mailbox, but the order in which the mails lie in the mbox file is at least correct. Note that the requested feature is not identical to the sorting you sort by the green "new" indicator column because this would put read mail ahead of unread and thus not necessarily be by order of appearance.
I believe we already have a sort available in the menu item View|Sort By|order Receoved... is that not what you're requesting?

I believe that is the feature. I wonder how I missed it when actually looking in that menu... Anyway, it would still be nice to be able to do it directly by clicking in the header bar, even though I am not quite sure how it would be implemented--after all, there is no field for received date. I guess a such could be implemented but of course this would require saving the date and time on which the mail was received by Mozilla. Would this information be useful, rather than the information on when the message arrived in the mailbox on the server?
There seems to be a problem with the feature in the menu--if I select sorting by "order received" it works fine but next time I start Mozilla, it goes back to date sorting. Am I the only one seeing this problem?
