Mike updated the wording from aurora fennec for nightly:

As we don't have translations for aurora, we should add a new product here:
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/stores_l10n/

In the context of the dawn project, having fennec nightly on google play is now key!
We should therefor translate them.

Please also manage the what's new section! :)

I would note that Nightly is not different from Aurora, and back then we decided to only use en-US for Aurora. Not sure if something changed in the meantime.

Yes, the end of aurora, we need to move fast and grow the nightly population. Having translations will only help with that (I think)

Hi Sylvestre, thanks for reaching out about this. This is going to be substantial work so would like to understand all the rational behind this.

First, do you already have an idea how often this content would need to be updated?

I'm also interesting in knowing how the previous experiments worked out and what data we gathered from this.

@Sebastian: looking back at our discussion in Bug 1289388 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1289388#c17) - did these experiments yield any results? What were the numbers in the end of people looking at the English Aurora listings?

@mhan/Fabio: any feedback/data on this as well that could help make an informed decision?

As I mentioned, this is going to be a lot of work both on our side and localizers so I just want to make sure having localized content is actually going to have the impact we hope it will :) thanks!

We are open to help but I think we still need more data before we go forwards with adding this to our stores dashboards and localize this content. Knowing how often this content is expected to change is a main point, but not the only one.

Having discussed all this a bit more recently within our team I think we need to make an informed decision here, and are still missing some pieces. We're not sure that just translating Store content will have much impact at all - while it implies a lot of time and work managing, translating and updating for the various stakeholders involved. We need to make sure it’s going to be the best interest of users and that this work will indeed be helpful/impactful. Please keep in mind that we may have to utilize budget to do this depending on the amount of work, so we all need to know what the return of investment is here.

A good start to make an informed decision would be to gather more data from marketing about the impact that Store content has on actual downloads - and I mean for applications in general, not just for Firefox. 
How many people actually check store descriptions (in English)? How many people check the What’s New? What's the impact that the content has on actual number of downloads? Also, what's the impact that localizing this content has on the actual number of downloads? Having this information is key to our decision here. thanks.

Yeah, this is what I would like to change.
We need diversity.

It will rarely change (look at the beta & release history for example).

I am convinced it will. Having a title in English is not engaging for non English speaker (a huge % of
our users), same for the description.
It also gives the impression that the application is not translated itself.

Last but not least, our main competitor is translating the content (like most of the main applications on Google play)

OK, one of the metric on google play - the conversation rate:
Aurora (no translation) - 8.2%
Beta (translated) - 26.4%
Release (translated) - 32.9%

Details per countries shows that non english speakers conversion rates are even smaller on aurora.
For example, Indonesia 3.8% on aurora / 24.4% on release...
Weve never done an experiment to "turn off" localized app store content to determine the impact of a localized app store.  However, we have done some App store optimization work where we've localized in product screenshots where we small small lift in install rate (ie 1-2%)  This number is small, and it was only testing one small element within the app store. 

In general, having a localized app store is known to increase not only installs, but discovery of the app through search engine optimization.  It is a lot of effort, and if we do so, we should prioritize the languages (maybe start with Germany and French to measure the impact).  

We would also not create all new content for the app store, instead leverage existing screenshots and copy and update with "experimental version" type of treatment or add a line calling out that this is a developer addition.  We would also not update the app store metadata with every version.

Since it's not the case currently with Beta and Release I want to be extra sure we're on the same page (ie currently I need to update our files for What's New with each new release, and Beta work goes out to localizers). But after chatting a bit with Sylvestre on irc, it seems this would not be the case for Nightly? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I want to make sure I understand all this correctly (also in the light of Mike's comment 9).

So does it boil down to: there will be no What's New to update for Nightly? If so, what will be in place of the What's New and is that content going to need to be udpated and localized with each new Nightly version (and if not - how frequently would it be updated, if at all)?

Ok this makes more sense now, so thanks for the clarifications and information provided.
