RFC 2706 defines special form field names for certain types of data - e.g. Name: ship-to middle name Form field name: Ecom_ShipTo_Postal_Name_Middle I'm not sure what mechanism Form Manager currently uses to decide which data to put in which box when prefilling forms, but Form Manager should acquire data for each of these data types, and use it to prefill forms which have the correct field names. This RFC and Form Manager are tailor-made for each other. CCing some of the mozilla/browser project, in case they are interested in implementing this. Gerv

cc'ing hewitt for no reason at all
This seems like a great project for someone who's learning to hack Mozilla.

RFC 2706 seems to be obsolete and RFC 3106 the currently valid one. Also, RFC 3505 is worth a look.

The old/complex suite form manager UI is gone, so there's no longer a need to support specific types of field names. Firefox's current form autocomplete will work fine with these fields as-is.

dolske: this bug is about the idea that the Form Manager should know e.g. your home address (because you entered it in some config panel), and then when fields appear marked as "home address" fields, it should automatically prefill them without the need for user interaction. I've not seen Firefox do that; are you saying it can? Gerv
