From Bugzilla Helper:

There is one thing, where Mozilla acts completely different than IE or Opera and
it really bothers me at times. If you look at a webpage that contains images or
at an image directly loaded from a server and you now want to store the image to
disk (out of the currently displayed webpage or just the recently loaded image
from the server), the download manage window opens. It opens just for a few
milliseconds, because it will most likely take the data from the memory cache of
Mozilla, but it does open. In IE the download manager does not open in that case
and in Opera neither. What for? It just stores the pictures to disk.

Even though we are just talking about a few milliseconds here, it is annoying if
you browse through pages that contain lots of pictures and you want to store
many of them to disk (picture archives for example). Isn't it possible to just
open the download manager if REALLY something is downloaded from a server
address like it is within IE and Opera?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Store a picture to disk which was loaded from a server or is part of a webpage.

Actual Results: Download manager opens and closes at once (maybe unless you
have chosen to not close it after download)

Expected Results: Download manager should not open, no download is taking place.
Probably invalid, see bug 66723.
There is no download manager showing up in IE and also not in Opera when saving
pictures of the page currently displayed (no, really not, not even the a
microsecond, no GUI call is done before the filechooser window opens), so why
does Mozilla need to have one? Because Netscape 4.x was having one too? Well,
FYI, I always considered Netscape 4.x to be a very poorly designed browser, I
never like it at all.
This does happen and it is annoying but also it is a duplicate - bug 66723 - and
I'm marking as such.
