This test compare two large images. Is it possible that we need the sync-image-decoding for this test?

Reftests all use sync decoding.

And it's not just the image in question that fails to decode, the dark background doesn't appear as well.

This failure is part of a larger series of failures that look the same. The cause is unlikely to be sync image decoding. There is a bug collecting them, but I don't have it handy.
