User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0 Build ID: 20170518000419 Steps to reproduce: File -> empy trash. Actual results: See the screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/QQmPf Expected results: The pane should be blank, and so the envelope icons should not appear. Nor is this a bug with my theme (Phoenity Schredder). For, I disabled that theme, deleted some e-mails, and the result is as here: https://imgur.com/a/GBYJG I am happy to help with investigating this bug, so long as any representative of Mozilla or Thunderbird is in good faith about trying to find a fix. I have this problem on Windows 8.1 x64.
Are you showing a unified trash folder in your pictures?
Yes, but now that I investigate which folders comprise that unified folder, I discover problems: 'local folders' appeared twice and, more generally, the folders I selected to be in the unified trash did not mirror the folder hierarchy I see in the folder pane - even after rebooting.
I have managed to get the folder pane to looks as it should - i.e. the folder hierarchy of the unified trash folder now shows all and only the trash folders that I have selected - but I discover that the problem of 'ghost' messages persists.
Summary: Empying trash leads to 'ghost' messages → Empying trash leads to 'ghost' messages when unified trash folder is used
