Steps to reproduce:

I have two events in one or more calendar and display the Today Pane.

My system:
Thunderbird 52.1.1 (64-bit)
Lightning 5.4
Linux Mint 18.1


Actual results:

I get the following display:
[Today]
Event A
Event B
[Tomorrow]
...
[Upcoming (7 days)]
Thu 1 Jun 2017
Event 1
Thu 1 Jun 2017
Event 2

Please see that "Event 1" and "Event 2" are on the same day (1st June 2017) but that day is displayed twice.


Expected results:

I would expect to see the events of one day displayed under one heading, eg:
[Today]
Event A
Event B
[Tomorrow]
...
[Upcoming (7 days)]
Thu 1 Jun 2017
Event 1
Event 2

Please note that "1st June 2017" is displayed only once with two events (just as "Today").

In the Soon section of the today pane the date will be shown for every entry. Enhancement requests were previously filed to group them together (e.g. Bug 660459, Bug 1199022) and were resolved as duplicates of Bug 417222.

IMHO the bug 417222 is about the display of all day events. This is clearly shown in the picture attached to this bug. I believe that this bug was solved some time ago, because now all day events are shown with arrows left of them indicating the start and end date (and ongoing if the start date is in the past).

In contrast to bug 417222 this bug report (and bug 660459 and bug 1199022) are about grouping multiple events under one day. Unfortunately the bug 417222 shows the all-day-events bug with an example grouping multiple events under one day, but it always mentions the all-day-events bug.

Can we please separate these two bugs, possibly closing bug 417222. Bug 660459 and bug 1199022 and this bug are duplicates. Can we please mark one of these as unresolved? Thanks.

Many of the issues initially reported in bug 417222 have been fixed, but has been left that bug to indicate an issue like this (despite the summary) because in that bug there are many proposals about a different way to display events in the today pane (like structure and all-day events too).
For example you would like to group the events as proposed in bug 417222 comment 13 but for me the best way is bug 417222 comment 11.
